Hoped for Outcome
Copyright 2015. Acrylic on cradled panel and Plexiglas. A visit to the ICU is fraught with a complex of thoughts and emotions. In this painting each color represents an idea or emotion or sometimes a multiplicity of them. In the background is purple symbolizing fear, anxiety and worry. Blue captures sadness and uncertainty but also hoped for peace. In the foreground: White symbolizes longing for wholeness. The two shades of yellow represent hope and joy or perhaps just moments of levity. Green symbolizes healing and growth. Implicit here is the fact that blue, yellow and white are featured in various renditions of the logo for Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, the context of the ICU for which this painting was composed (largely using slip tip syringes).
